The Sheriffs Communications center dispatches for eighteen fire departments, ten village police departments and six ambulance districts. All the cellular 9-1-1 calls in Wood County are answered here. When the cellular phone companies send the call they are required to also send information so the dispatcher can map where the caller is within ten meters! All land line 9-1-1 calls go through the center and are automatically routed to the appropriate dispatch center in Wood County . The dispatcher also receives an aerial photo of the location of the call.
The Sheriffs Communications center receives over 30,000 9-1-1 calls per year and that number is steadily increasing every month.
